A Cataclismic Collision
Earth and Theia collided 4,5 bn years ago. The crash gave origin to the Moon, a splinter of the explosion. This is the theory that was accepted in the 80', but little evidence had been found of it until now.
A more refined analysis of moon rocks show that some belong to Earth, but some have an alien origin.
Some scientists objected that the new material could have been harvested from space during the long existence of the Moon, but at the moment the more credited version is the first.
What puzzles scientists and researchers is that the material coming from Theia has a similar "fingerprint" of that of Earth, despite being definitely of another origin.
One possibility is that Theia was formed very close the Earth and so had a similar composition. If that was the case, it raises the possibility that the assumption that each planet in the current Solar System has a markedly different fingerprint needs to be revisited.
