Apple Cider Vinegar In The Bathtub

Apple cider vinegar (ACV) is claimed to lead to all sorts of benefits, some of which are supported by science. This includes weight loss, lower blood sugar levels and improved symptoms of diabetes. ACV inhibits harmful bacteria from growing in the digestive tract, and might even have anti-cancer effects.

Lately, this popular remedy has been making its way into bathtubs.

Industrial deodorants just cover up a smell. Taking a bath in warm water and a half cup of ACV can help reduce bacteria buildup in warm, moist places like your armpits, creating a less hospitable home for future odour. But, more importantly, it can treat fungal toenail infections. This kind of problems occur when the pH of the surrounding skin and nail becomes more alkaline in nature, allowing the fungus to live. But if the pH of the area turns from basic to more acidic, the fungus cannot survive. ACV is acidic enough to stop the toenail fungus in its tracks but still mild enough to not damage the surrounding skin and nail if diluted in a foot-bath.

ACV can also improve your hair by removing shampoo and other product buildup. It doubles as a natural detangler, and leaves your hair soft and smooth. It can also relieve muscle pain.

The acidic level of ACV is quite high, so it should be diluted and tested on a small area of your skin before being used in a bath.

Quality matters: if you decide to use ACV, whether as a food or as a remedy, make sure to get an organic, high quality product, free from chemicals and additives.
