Is Pilates For Men Too?

a12.11.14.jpg
The question is in itself a nonsense, since its inventor was a man who came from a background of wrestling and body building and was himself a boxeur. Still Pilates has a huge following - made up mostly of women.

At the bottom of this lay a misrepresentation of this tough discipline. The fact that it is linked to dance and ballet makes it less appealing for big rough weight lifters. But not many know that by reinforcing the very core of the human body, Pilates allows actually the full development of a body potential to do virtually anything, from pirouettes to extreme body building.

The second element is its slowness. We tend to associate effort and conditioning with speed. But Pilates exercises can be painfully intense and very, very demanding. If we compare a series of energetic, marine-style push-ups and the still posture on your toes and elbows, complete with its meticulous control of every inch of your abs and back muscles, we wonder what will be the most excruciating - and the most effective.

At the light of this, some men should revise their idea of masculinity, perhaps.
