Salt, Yes Or No?
Actually, yes. Apparently there is no need for anyone free from hypertension to undergo a diet low in sodium. In fact, too little salt could lead to cardiovascular problems.
According to a study, the only people who need to worry about the intake of sodium are those with high blood pressure and have high salt consumption.
Surprisingly, the researchers found that regardless of whether people have high blood pressure, low-sodium intake is associated with more heart attacks, strokes, and deaths compared to average intake.
The research involved more than 130,000 people from 49 countries and was carried out by the Population Health Research Institute (PHRI) of McMaster University and Hamilton Health Sciences.
"While our data highlights the importance of reducing high salt intake in people with hypertension, it does not support reducing salt intake to low levels”, the researchers declared.
