The Cat Returns
Kazuko Yamagishi and her husband Takeo lived in Ofunato, a city in the Iwate Prefecture, when the tsunami struck on 11 March 2011. Their cat Suika disappeared, as much of the town. The couple searched for him for three months before giving up hope.
Three years after the disaster, Suika is back home. He was spotted recently in a nearby pine forest and was taken to the Ofunato Health Centre. But nobody seemed to know him. It was only days later, when an employee was taking a photo to advertise the cat's presence, that he noticed some faded letters on the cat's collar where name and address of the owner was once printed.
Now Suika is reunited with the Yamagishis. But the presence of a little bell on the cat's collar means clearly that someone, during all this difficult time, must have taken care of him.
