The Public Enemy No. 1
The US government is changing its mind about the nutrient value of fat. Fatty foods containing cholesterol - long thought to cause heart disease and strokes - have been dropped from the list of 'nutrients of concern'.
For 40 years fatty foods containing high cholesterol such as butter, eggs, red meat, shellfish and liver, have been accused of being dangerous for our health. But apparently eating cholesterol doesn't account for the presence of this substance in our blood.
This is why the US Department of Agriculture plans to revoke their long-standing dietary guidelines and to focus on the amount of sugar people are eating, instead - the real enemy No.1.
