We have tomatoes all year round. They come from warm countries when it's Winter in ours, or from heated greenhouses. But the real moment for real tomatoes is now.

Grab them when they are naturally ripe. Try to buy them locally, from a reliable source, if you can't eat your own. Try to get them when they have gathered all possible strength and flavour from being under the Summer sun. Naturally ripened tomatoes are nothing like their tamed, industrial counterpart. They really are the Fruit of Gold, capable to give each of us a wealth in terms of vitamins, minerals and nutrients. Make preserves if you can, put away their goodness for Winter time, for when daylight will become shorter and shorter and our senses will long for a sunny, round taste of happiness.
