The Microgreens Revolution: The New Trend in Therapeutic Home Gardening
Italy is experiencing a boom in home-grown microgreens, tiny nutrient-rich plants that are transforming the relationship between nutrition and psychophysical wellbeing. These "miniature superfoods" contain up to 40 times more nutrients than their mature counterparts and can be easily grown in small spaces. The most interesting aspect concerns the therapeutic benefits: the daily care of these tiny plants is showing positive effects on mood and anxiety reduction. A recent study conducted on 500 participants has shown that growing microgreens for just 10 minutes a day can reduce stress levels by 32% and increase the sense of connection with nature, even while living in cities. The most popular varieties include broccoli, radish, and sunflower sprouts, but the market is rapidly expanding with new exotic species. Experts predict this trend will continue to grow, with a projected 145% increase in sales of home growing kits in the coming months. Additionally, more schools are introducing educational programs based on microgreens cultivation, combining nutritional education and environmental sustainability. The phenomenon is also inspiring a new generation of restaurateurs who are incorporating these fresh and nutritious ingredients into their menus.
