Description:
With David Oldham
Reflecting on our beliefs, thoughts and feelings about death is an integral part of our lives but is something that is often surrounded by fear and can cause us a lot of suffering. In the Four Noble Truths, the Buddha taught that it is our mind and the mental habits we accumulate that cause our suffering. By working with the breath we can begin to let go of this suffering and alleviate any fears we have surrounding the end of our lives. Then we can start to experience more freedom in our lives and our deaths.
This weekend will involve both sitting and walking meditations focusing on the breath and guidance on finding an internal point of refuge. There will also be time for individual reflective exercises as well as some group discussions. The aim is to help us reconnect with our deeper nature of acceptance and open-heartedness, allowing us to experience and appreciate the freedom we can create within ourselves.
David Oldham is a highly qualified and experienced counsellor, currently working in a day care hospice with those affected by life-threatening and terminal illnesses. In this role he facilitates support groups, courses and retreats in mindfulness meditation and self-compassion as well as counselling adults and children affected by bereavement and loss. Many of his clients are faced with suffering and worries about life and death and he has found that a simple approach of learning to work with the breath can be extremely useful.
