The Hunt Resumes
A strong protest is expected at international level that we could all join, now that Japan has declared its will to resume the whaling program in the Antarctic. The decision comes despite the International Whaling Commission's vote on Thursday that the practice is illegal because it is not for research purposes.
The Japanese government has declared the IWC's decision "regrettable".
Japan maintains its annual hunt is for research only, but it is a mater of fact that the meat from the slaughtered whales is sold commercially in the country.
The members of IWC, gathered in Slovenia, have passed the non-binding resolution, adopted from an International Court of Justice ruling earlier this year stating that Japan's hunt did not meet the requirements to be scientific.
