The island of Malta is making the headlines around Europe for its ruthless policy of hunting.

It is the only place to have an exemption from the EU Birds Directive, a legislation that aims to the conservation of wild birds.

Maltese hunters can shoot birds during their spring migration. Malta is a precious stop on their way to the northern countries. But there they are ambushed by a massive number of hunters out of control, ready even to shoot the birds on the ground overnight. Why? Because the birds are trophies.

The European Commission is now under pressure by other EU members over the hunting exemption, that must stop as soon as possible.
